Phoenix Matarazzo, Owner, CYT
YOGA: Phoenix returned to the Naugatuck Valley upon completion of her degree in Dance from The Hartt School. Phoenix realized that her home area was lacking something: YOGA STUDIOS. A student of Bikram Yoga in her earlier days, she went on to fall in love with Anusara, and Vinyasa styles. She remembers one specific class in West Hartford that ignited her desire to share the practice with others. Phoenix completed her 200 hour teacher training through Lotus Garden's Yoga in Sherman, CT. Since then she has enjoyed bringing the practice of yoga to students of all ages, including teaching Dance and Yoga at The Devereux Glenholme School, Achievement First Hartford Elementary, and The Surreybrook School in Bethany. In addition to yoga, Phoenix is also a certified Pilates Mat instructor, and holds a certificate in Integrative Health and Healing from the Graduate Institute in Bethany, CT. Her classes are versatile and focus on meeting the needs of her students which vary from day to day as life changes. ~Namaste~
DANCE: Phoenix's passion for dance started at a very young age. After training at The Dance Workshop in Monroe, privately with Lisa Denaro, and dancing on the Shelton High School Dance Team, she then went on to pursue a degree in Dance Performance at The Hartt School of University of Hartford. While there she was able to extensively study Classical Ballet, Modern, Graham, Limon, Improvisation, Composition, and Ballet Pedagogy. During school breaks she traveled to New York and California to participate in intensives with Paul Taylor Dance Company, Axis Dance Company, and locally Full Force Dance Theater. During her senior year and post graduation Phoenix was on faculty for the Hartt Community Division's Children's Ballet and Open Adult Division for 3 years. While living in Hartford County she also taught the Dance elective at Asnuntuck Community College for three semesters. She also has worked and continues to work with her hometown dance team as a Ballet Technique instructor. When Phoenix Yoga & Wellness opened, she made the difficult decision to leave her full-time position teaching dance to focus on the studio. She is very much looking forward to making dance a part of Phoenix Yoga & Wellness!
Ashley is a certified Kids Yoga Teacher whose goal is to share the amazing benefits of yoga with children of all ages. Her love of yoga began with her Bikram practice. Ashley has a four year old daughter who quickly began to enjoy and imitate her yoga practice! At that point she knew yoga was something she needed to bring into her daughter's life as well. Discouraged by the lack of children's yoga classes offered in the area, Ashley decided to take it upon herself to teach her daughter and other children the joys of yoga!

Jessica has been practicing yoga since 2005 and is a certified 200 hour yoga teacher and a 2011 graduate from Lotus Gardens Yoga School Teacher Training program. She incorporates yoga in all parts of her life, including practicing with her students in her career as an elementary school counselor. She enjoys practicing Vinyasa flow yoga. Jess believes that yoga is for everyone and will bring inner healing to all who practice through peace, love, and Namaste.

Charlie is a RYT with Yoga Alliance and certified to teach yoga by Kim Valeri
of Yoga Spirit © Studios. The training is Iyengar inspired with a fusion of
Kundalini and Surat Shabda Yoga. He started his yoga practice in 2006 and has
been fascinated with proper alignment from the very beginning. He believes that
yoga should be fun and a learning experience; about your body and who you are
in that body. He will encourage you to find your true self: physically,
mentally and spiritually. Yoga changes lives and if you are looking for change,
the best place to start is with a yoga class or two.
in college and on the mountains as a snowboarder, Charlie picked up the Tao Te
Ching. Later on he continued his self-study with books on Buddhism, The Bhagavad
Gita and now the Yoga Sutras and continues to quest knowledge. He is also a
Reiki Master. Charlie continues his yoga studies by going to classes in many
different styles of yoga: Kripalu, Naam, Kundalini, Dharma Mitta, Anusara, and
others and he draws it into his teaching.

LeeAnn is a
registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and certified to teach Hatha Yoga.
She began attending yoga classes in 2003. Two years ago she made the decision
to become a yoga teacher so that she may share with others all the wonderful gifts
yoga has to offer. Her belief is that yoga can help people of all ages and
fitness levels to attain well-being, strength, and relaxation. She continues
her studies with regular workshops, literature, and self study. LeeAnn believes
that the there is always something new to learn in practicing yoga and the
possibilities are endless.
Classes: Thursdays at 5:45pm Beginners Yoga, Evening Blend (all levels) Mondays at 7:30pm and Tuesdays at 6:00pm.
Jess Braccia is a graduate of the Lotus Gardens
200hr YT training program. She has been practicing asana for 7 years, and
continues to receive a sense of calm and purpose every time she steps onto her
mat. Jess began practicing yoga to recover from gymnastics injuries, and found
that in it truly helped her to cope with anxiety and stress as well. In
addition to her 200hr YT certification, Jess also holds a BA in Theatre
Performance from UMass Amherst. Jess uses her background in physical theater to
bring fluidity and creativity to her classes; her goal as a teacher is to help
clients ease their way into poses with a true mind-body connection.
Classes: Sundays Relax & Unwind, 5:00-6:00pm, Mondays 6:00-7:00pm Vinyasa Flow, Rotating Sundays Hot Power Flow 9-10am.
Mixed Level: This class is ideal for all levels. A gentle centering practice is followed by a warm up that prepares the body and mind to deepen into the practice. A series of postures that are energizing are then followed by a relaxation to calm the mind. A great balance of stretching and strengthening is utilized to achieve optimal physical and mental health.
Vinyasa Flow: Flow from pose to pose while calming the mind and deepening the breath. Vinyasa Flow classes build strength, flexibilty, endurance, and stamina.
HOT Power: Be prepared to sweat and surrender to your practice! The heated room allows for the muscular systems in the body to relax while allowing a deeper lengthening in asanas. *Not Recommended for those new to the practice of Yoga as the class moves quickly and requires prior knowledge of asanas*
Gentle Flow: Connect your body to breath, stretch, relax, and meditate in motion. Great for unwinding at the end of the day and for your overall health and fitness.
Relax & Unwind: Every Sunday, Join RYT Jessica Braccia as she guides you through a practice to refresh the mind, body, and spirit for the week ahead, while leaving the previous week behind. A perfect gentle class for anyone looking for deep relaxation.
Beginners Yoga: For those new to the practice of Yoga, we offer a beginners class to become familiar with the basic postures and their alignment. You will also develop a further knowledge of the flow of a yoga class and the terminology used throughout the practice. Perfect for anyone looking to try something new!
CORE Flow: Awaken your inner warrior with Core Yoga. A series of postures is designed to strengthen and tone. Be prepared to sweat and leave feeling amazing!
Candlelight Vinyasa: Every Thursday evening, enjoy an invigorating and relaxing flow practice by candlelight. This class is suitable for all levels.
Evening Blend- All Levels: A relaxing mix of stretching and strengthening to unwind from a busy day. You are guratneed to sleep like a baby afterwards! Great for anxiety, stress, and every day life! Appropriate for ALL LEVELS.
Yin Yoga- Balance out the "yang" practice of power and vinyasa styles with the yin. In this class you will target the connective tissue, ligaments, bones, and joints. Longer holds will allow us to deepen into the postures as we quiet the mind. Truly a practice that everyone should experience.
Kids Yoga: Come breathe, stretch, and play! This imaginative energetic class will teach your child self awareness, respect, build on coordnation, flexibility, and balance, ending with relaxation exercises designed to relieve stress and calm the body and mind. Daily yoga practice has been known to treat symptoms of ADHD, depression, and anxiety. It's never too early to begin practicing! Children are natural born yoginis, and kids yoga classes are the perfect way to foster this gift! Your child will learn basic poses while playing gaes that incorporate team work, self-esteem, creativity, and movement! *Kids Yoga now runs as a series that requires pre-registration.* Drop ins will be welcomed on a space available basis.
*Students age 12+ are able to take adult yoga classes with the approval of a legal guardian and the instructor.
